Abstract

A common issue experienced by young adults is mental health problems, including stress. Likewise, pet owners often experience similar issues such as stress. Therefore, many young adults choose to keep pets, especially dogs and cats, as a source of calmness or happiness. However, unfortunately, there has been no comprehensive research on this topic. Hence, this study aims to examine the influence of attachment to pets on stress in young adult dog and cat owners in Bandung City. The research method employed a quantitative approach with data analysis through simple linear regression. The subjects of this study were young adults aged 18-40 years who owned dogs or cats in Greater Bandung City. The results showed that only 0.02% of the influence of attachment to pets affected stress, with a significance value of 0.089, which is greater than 0.05. Thus, there was no significant influence between attachment to pets and stress. However, when associated with demographic data, the study showed that gender influenced 1.5% of stress in attachment to pets, occupation 1.9%, type of residence 2.0%, age 3.7%, type of pet 3.8%, and length of time keeping the pet 4.5%. These results indicate that although various factors influence stress, attachment to pets is not a significant primary factor in reducing stress among young adult dog and cat owners in Bandung City.
